  • Animas (J&J division) received FDA approval and Health Canada license for its OneTouch Vibe Plus Insulin Pump, which is integrated with Dexcom G5 Mobile Continuous Glucose Monitor. Link
  • Intarcia Therapeutics received $206M from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for their technology targeting HIV. Link
  • Femasys, a developer of POC devices for women’s health, raised $40M in a Series C round, to use for a pivotal trial of its FemBloc permanent female contraception device. Link
  • Optos (a subsidiary of Nikon) and Verily(Google unit) collaborated to develop technologies for machine learning-enabled retinal imaging, to diagnose diabetic complications. Link
  • Alcon’s received FDA Approval for its AcrySof IQ ReStor intraocular lens. Link
  • AirXpanders received de novo FDA clearance for its AeroForm breast tissue expander. Link
  • Avinger received FDA clearance for its Lumivascular imaging console, enabling vessel measurement via a touchscreen system. Link
  • Varian Medical agreed to put up $267M to acquire the medical imaging business of PerkinElmer Inc. Link
  • SMC acquired a UK auto-injector developer, Oval Medical Technologies. Link
  • FDA cleared integration of J&J and Welldoc tech for real-time diabetes management. Link
  • Gordian Surgical received FDA clearance for its TroClose 1200 trocar, designed to enable access to the abdomen during laparoscopic surgery. Link
  • Lumendi received FDA 510(k) clearance for its DiLumen endoscopic device, designed to stabilize a colonoscope to aid in incision-free endolumenal therapeutic procedures. Link

Glaukos (2001, Laguna Hills, IPO) – Developed Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery implant to treat glaucoma. Backed by Orbimed, Meritech Capital, InterWest Partners, Frazier Healthcare Partners, Versant Ventures, Novo A/S, Domain Associates, Fjord Ventures, and Montreux Equity Partners. Went public in 2015.

Ocular Therapeutix (2006, Bedford, IPO) – Develops Ophthalmic therapeutic products by using hydrogel technology. Backed by  Polaris Partners, Ascension Ventures, Versant Ventures, SV Life Sciences, Baxter, Pinnacle Ventures, and Ascension Ventures. Went public in 2014.
